BMW B42 G20 ECU Remap

OEM+ Calibration for the BMW 320i G20 LCI B42 2.0T with 48V Mild-Hybrid

What is the BMW B42 Engine?

The BMW B42 is the successor to the B48 engine, introduced in the G20 LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) from approximately mid-2022, depending on market. The B42 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that integrates a 48V mild-hybrid system (MHEV) for improved efficiency and responsiveness.

The B42 retains the B48's core architecture — twin-scroll turbocharger, VALVETRONIC, and Double-VANOS — but adds a 48V integrated starter-generator (ISG) that provides electric assist during acceleration and recovers energy during deceleration. The engine is managed by the same Bosch MG1 DME platform, making it fully compatible with our calibration tools.

Our OEM+ calibration for the B42 optimises the combustion engine maps while maintaining full compatibility with the 48V mild-hybrid system. The ISG continues to function normally — electric torque-fill during gear changes, engine auto-stop/start, and energy recuperation are all preserved.

48V Mild-Hybrid Integration

What Makes B42 Tuning Different?

The B42's 48V system adds an additional layer of complexity. The DME must coordinate the combustion engine with the integrated starter-generator. Our calibration is developed specifically for this hybrid architecture, ensuring the ISG torque-fill strategy remains perfectly synchronised with the increased engine output.

Unlike aftermarket piggyback devices that are unaware of the mild-hybrid system, our ECU remap works directly within the DME's control logic. This means the 48V system sees the calibrated engine output as normal and adjusts its operation accordingly.

How the B42 Remap Works

The process is identical to our B48 calibration — performed remotely via your OBD2 port using a standard ENET cable. Our software reads the MG1 DME, extracts the factory calibration, and writes the optimised OEM+ calibration. Learn more about how BMW G20 ECU flash works.

The B42 calibration modifies:

Boost pressure target maps — optimised for the B42's turbocharger characteristics
Ignition timing maps — adjusted for the B42's combustion chamber geometry
Fuel injection parameters — calibrated for increased airflow
Torque limiter maps — raised while maintaining 48V coordination
ISG torque-fill parameters — preserved for seamless hybrid operation

B42 vs B48: Key Differences

The B42 and B48 share the same displacement and core architecture, but the B42's 48V integration and updated turbocharger calibration create subtle differences in power delivery. For a complete technical comparison, read our B48 vs B42 differences guide.

Safety and Reversibility

All factory safety systems are fully preserved, including the 48V system's protective functions. The calibration is 100% reversible — you can restore the original factory software at any time. Our remote tuning safety guide explains the full process and safeguards.
